Chantal Larivière, sixième enfant d’une famille de six, a toujours été portée vers le dessin. Dès son jeune âge elle passe des heures à dessiner. Voyant son talent et intérêt, ses parents lui offrent, en guise de cadeau d’anniversaire, un cours de peinture à l’huile. En 1982, sous la tutelle de l’artiste peintre M. Surprenant, Chantal applique ses premiers coups de brosse sur les canevas et tombe immédiatement amoureuse de cette forme d’expression artistique.

De 1986 à 1989, tout en complétant son D.E.C., elle poursuit ses cours de dessin, le dessin au graphite restant toujours son médium de choix. En 1989, encouragée par ses professeurs, elle entre aux Beaux Arts du collège Dawson où elle est initiée à plusieurs nouveaux médiums tels que l’encre, l’huile, l’acrylique, et l’aquarelle. 1990 voit ses débuts aux Beaux Arts de l’université Concordia à Montréal. Durant quelques années elle poursuit son évolution et peut parfaire sa technique tout en s’initiant à de nouveaux médiums tels que la céramique, l’encre de chine, le graphite, le pastel sec et le pastel à l’huile.

Depuis, elle a toujours poussé sa créativité artistique aux limites de l’imagination. Jouissant d’un don unique pour tout ce qu’elle touche, elle s’aventure dans différents médiums comme la couture, la courtepointe et bijoux. En 2004 …coup de cœur! Elle refait connaissance avec l’acrylique et l’explore de diverses façons, sur toile ainsi que sur de vieux meubles usagés, murales, et vitrines. Chantal est reconnue pour sa grande versatilité, créativité et surtout son insatiable soif de renouveau artistique.

Artist Biography

Chantal Larivière, sixth child of a family of six, has always been prone to drawing. As a young child she often spent hours upon hours drawing. Recognizing her talent, her parents offer her, for her 16th birthday, her first oil painting course. In 1982, with the guidance of oil painting artist M. Surprenant, Chantal experiences her first brush stokes on canvas and immediately falls in love with this form of artistic expression.

From 1986 to 1989, she continues to pursue her drawing courses, while completing her D.E.C. in Social Science, graphite remaining her medium of choice. In 1989, with the encouragement of her professors, she enters Dawson College in Fine Arts where she is introduced to many new mediums such as ink, oil, acrylic, and watercolor. 1990 Chantal sees her debut at the faculty of Fine Art at Concordia University. During some years Concordia University enabled her to continually improve her techniques learnt and initiated her to new mediums such as ceramic, ink, graphite, dry pastel and oil pastel.

Since, she has always stayed in touch with her artistic creativity continually pushing the limits of her imagination. Artistically gifted with anything she touches, she adventures in many other mediums such as sewing, quilting, and jewelry making. In 2004 … she immediately falls in love! She is reintroduced to acrylics and explores the medium in multiple ways; on canvas, old used furniture, murals, and windows. Chantal is known for her enormous versatility, creativity and for her insatiable thirst of artistic revival.
